They typically work on short-term contracts filling in for staff shortages or to cover peak demand periods. These professionals enjoy the opportunity to explore new cities while gaining diverse clinical experience and often receive competitive compensation packages, including housing allowances and travel reimbursements.
Travel therapists, including respiratory therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech therapists are healthcare professionals who travel to different locations to provide therapy services on short-term contracts. They work in various healthcare settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and outpatient clinics, filling staffing gaps or meeting increased patient demand. Travel therapists enjoy the flexibility to explore different locations while honing their skills and earning competitive compensation packages that may include meal and housing stipends, travel reimbursement, and higher pay rates than permanent positions.

Licensing depends on your profession but in general, most assignments require you to have a current, active license in the state for which you are applying. In some cases where state licensing is not required for your profession, current national certification must be active and in good standing. Many states participate in compact agreements that reduce regulatory barriers to interstate mobility and cross-state practice.
